Nature Babycare
Prior to T’s arrival I hadn’t given nappies a second thought. That was until my antenatal class instructor suggested we consider nappies without chemicals.
I remember thinking at the time “that’s rather opinionated!” However, her comment did get me thinking and I started to look into which nappy brands were chemical free.
I discovered Naty’s Nature Babycare’s line of eco nappies and as it turns out my little one has worn them since day one.
Nature Babycare nappies are made from breathable, natural materials and are GM and chlorine free.
In addition to nappies, the Nature Babycare range includes disposal bags, wipes, shampoo, baby wash, nappy rash cream and more.
I order my nappies in bulk online from Boots; additional stockists include Waitrose and Ocado.
Nappies range from £5.98 to £7.99 per pack

Tommee Tippee
I discovered the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Breast Pump pretty late, but it really is fantastic.
For months I struggled with an electric pump and boy, do I wish I could turn back time. If I’d known what I know now I would have used a manual pump from the get-go.
The Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature pump is lightweight, effective and crucially, as it consists of just 3 parts, it’s easy to assemble and sterilise. It accompanied me to Paris and I find it faster, simpler and quieter to use than my electric one.
Tommee Tippee makes pretty much anything you need for feeding your baby. I also use their bottles and feeding cups and T seems to like them a lot too.

Galt Playnest
A few months ago my Mum bought Galt’s Playnest (known in our home as the doughnut) and T still loves it.
In a nutshell, the Playnest is an inflatable ring of fun. Definitely one of the best baby purchases made so far, it keeps T entertained with a bright, vibrant collection of farmyard animals to touch, play peek-a-boo and use to make sounds.
More importantly, when T was learning to sit three months ago, it proved invaluable by providing support as she figured out how to stay upright. The Playnest also prevents T from roaming if I need her to remain in one spot.
Galt’s Playnest can be purchased with a gym attachment. We don’t have the attachment but I’ve seen it at other mummies’ homes. The gym consists of two arches that attach to the Playnest with lots of fun toys for little ones to reach up and play with.

M2B Tshirt Nursing Bra
Anyone who’s had to buy a nursing bra knows what a soul-destroying experience it can be.
First of all, the retail options are severely limited. Then, when you do eventually find a stockist, the options are pretty awful.
I didn’t want to be stuck with something a grandma would pass over, so I was over the moon when I discovered the sleek and stylish M2B Tshirt Nursing Bra from Mothercare.
I bought every single one in my size and I haven’t looked back.

Easy-View
T and I do a quite a bit of driving and the Easy-View mirror from Sunshine Kids has become indispensable.
As a number of modern cars are now fitted with passenger side airbags, it’s not always possible to place rear facing baby seats on the front passenger seat. The Easy-View allows you to keep an eye on your little one by means of a mirror that rotates 360 degrees.
Easy-View attaches to the centre of the rear headrest providing the perfect angle to view your baby, without moving your rear-view mirror.
Easy to fit, the attachment adjusts easily allowing the mirror to be positioned for different drivers.
I purchased mine from Mothercare and Easy-View is available from retailers nationwide.

Sock Ons
I discovered Sock Ons when T and I attended our first aid course a few weeks ago. I noticed the baby next to us had an interesting strap type device over her socks, which at first glance I thought were jodhpurs.
I was feeling nosey so during the break I leaned over and asked her mummy exactly what they were.
“Oh, they’re Sock Ons, you can get them from Mothercare. They’re brilliant!”
Since then, I’ve noticed them on little feet pretty much everywhere we go.
I often find T with one sock on, one sock off, usually a result of sock pulling or poor elastic. Sock Ons are the perfect solution as they fit over your little ones socks and keep them in place.
Made from a softly woven blend of elasticised material, the classic range is currently available in 5 plain colours: baby pink, fuchsia, baby blue, navy and white.

Gro-Egg Room Thermometer
I decided to purchase the Gro-Egg Thermometer shortly after T and I came home from hospital. I wanted to make sure the room temperature for her was just right.
The Gro-Egg looks a bit like an Easter egg. It’s a digital thermometer that changes colour to reflect the temperature in the room.
I love the fact its gentle, glowing light display clearly demonstrates if the room temperate is too cold (blue) okay (yellow) or getting hot in here (red). I can see at a glance if things are okay or if I need to adjust T’s night-time clothing.
The thermometer also has a power adaptor so you don’t have to worry about batteries.

The Nursery Range from Matalan
Not So Yummy Mummy is on a strict budget when it comes to baby purchases. Scouring the internet for the baby bargains has become part and parcel of my life as a new mum.
When T moved into her cot at the start of the year I found I needed to buy new bedding all over again. After trying bits and pieces from a few different retailers I’ve become a huge fan of Matalan’s Nursery Range.
Who wouldn’t be when you can find a mattress protector for 1/3 of the price compared to a department store equivalent? (If I hadn’t unwrapped the one I bought for £15 at John Lewis I would have returned it immediately after discovering the Matalan range).
In addition to the mattress protectors and fitted sheets for her cot, T falls asleep every night in the Sleepbag Bunny which is lovely, cosy and excellent value.
Mattress Protector, £5.00
Sleepbag Bunny (Grey), £8.00
Fitted Sheets Pram/Moses, £4.00

Mamascarf
I started looking online for breastfeeding scarves while I was still pregnant and decided to try the Mamascarf after checking out reviews.
When it arrived by post a few days later I was slightly surprised to find it was such a simple, black, triangular piece of cloth. Could it work? Time would tell…
My Mamascarf has proved to be indispensible. Its lightweight so easy to fold and carry in any sized bag and it also means that T doesn’t overheat when I use it.
The Mamascarf is 100% cotton and I love that fact it’s so discreet compared to the large, bulky alternate breastfeeding cover ups I’ve seen other mums use. In contrast, my Mamascarf blends in easily with my clothing. I’d be lost without it.
Mamascarf has kindly shared a 10% discount code available for all Not So Yummy Mummy readers. To redeem the offer type KEIRA01 in discount code box at www.mamascarf.co.uk. The offer is valid until end of May 2010.
